About Sports Cards & Cars
My sports card story started the old-school way — in the 1980s.
In 1980, I took a trip to spring training in Arizona, and something clicked. The crack of the bat, the smell of fresh-cut grass, players up close — it made the game real. And from that point on, baseball cards weren’t just cardboard. They were pieces of the story.
Like a lot of kids in the ‘80s, I collected everything I could get my hands on. Wax packs, binders, shoeboxes under the bed — the hobby was pure fun back then. No grading. No comps. Just chasing your favorite players and building your own collection one pack at a time.
Fast forward to 2021, and I dove back in — this time with a modern mindset. I started studying the market, learning grading standards, and submitting cards for slabbing. There’s something incredibly satisfying about seeing a card preserved and authenticated — turning a great piece into a lasting piece. But even with the modern tools and analytics, the heart of it still feels like 1985.
I’ve grown to really appreciate vintage cards. The design, the history, the players — they carry weight. They tell stories from eras most of us only know through highlights and legends.
My personal collection (PC) centers around three players who represent different eras of the game:
Mickey Mantle — the icon of baseball’s golden era. Power, charisma, and history all in one name.
Don Sutton — consistency, longevity, and Hall of Fame excellence.
Bobby Witt Jr. — the excitement of the modern game and the future of the hobby.
For me, collecting isn’t just about value — it’s about connection. To the game. To the memories. To the stories behind every card.
That’s what this journey is about.
